GenBank stores nucleotide sequencing data from user submissions, including large-scale sequencing projects, whole-genome shotgun and environmental sampling projects. It is synchronized with the European Nucleotide Archive and the DNA Data Bank of Japan. It is currently being replaced by NCBI Datasets.
