Dr. Maria Ines Gimenez

I am an Adjunct CONICET researcher at Mar del Plata University. I have worked with halophilic archaea for almost 20 years. My undergraduate and PhD research was focused on extracellular proteases of Natrialba magadii, under the direction of Dr. De Castro. I went to UPenn for my posdoc at Mecky Pohlschroder´s laboratory where I worked with the Tat secretion system of H. volcanii. Upon my return to Argentina I started my own research line at the IIB. I work with rhomboid proteases and their effect on cell surface processes in H. volcanii. I also collaborate to different extents with other projects of the lab involving basic and applied research on metal nanoparticle biosynthesis, carotenogenesis and bioplastic generation. The research techniques we  use at our lab include microbiology, genetic and molecular biology protocols. We also have ongoing collaborations that allow us to expand our research using proteomics and glycobiology techniques.
